Releasing Grief

Moving through dark and heavy emotions cannot be rushed, hidden or suppressed nor should it. Relief is on the horizon and you will get there in your own time.

Early on in the painting process this painting fell over and ripped right in the center. I was faced with the decision to start over or to take on the challenge of not only repairing the canvas, but making it more beautiful in the process. Inspired by the Japanese art of „Kintsugi“ where broken stonework gets mended with gold, I too used gold and silver leaf to repair the rip and let it shine through the layers of paint. Only because of this the true meaning of the piece came to me. Soon enough your scars will be beautiful to you, because they document your overcoming and growth.

This is a part of my „Floating Tiger“ series, five paintings that process the autism diagnosis I got at 27. Finding myself and truly embracing my neurodivergence was freeing, exhilarating, healing, devastating, and connecting. Each aspect is painted as a tiger out of its element - floating, adapting, strong and resilient. This series is for every person that felt different and lost at one point in their lives, you are pushing through boundaries that are invisible to the world. Embracing and accommodating yourself is a long process but now you have a community.

This painting will add a pop of color to your home and is sure to brighten up any room you place it in. Let it remind you of your own strength one day at a time.
